18th December, Judo Course & Grading, Seghill
Students from Seghill and Battlehill Judo Club's participated in a Judo course at Seghill's
Institute building, under the guidance of four Shodans, "Big" BillySnowdon,
Steve Smith, Damien Anderson and Darren May
Students were put through their paces with tuition in Tachi waza (standing techniques), Nage waza
(groundwork techniques) including various counter and combination
techniques.
Sharon May 4th Dan was also on hand to examine students for promotion, the following promotions were
awarded.
White + 1 Yellow Taylor Naseby, Jason Smith & Owen Moody.
White + 2 Yellow James Lowden, Ryan Norris & Devyn Moore
White + 3 Yellow Sean Young &Callum McKenzie
White + 1 Green Joe Moody & Megan Moody.

10th December, Student of the Year
Battlehill Judo club presented two annual awards, Most successful competitor was awarded to Joe Moody for the second consecutive year, whilst Judoka of the year award was presented to Sean Young
10th December, Christmas Party, Blyth
A great Christmas party was had at the Comrades Club in Blyth, The party, hosted by DJ Jason of Fordley, was attended by Battlehill, Fordley, Seghill and Life & Soul Judo Clubs. Many thanks to Debbie and Jason Anderson for their hard work organising the event.
26th November NACYP, North Shields
Seven students from Battle hill entered the Northumberland Association of Clubs for Young People's annual Judo competition held at the Parks Sports Centre. Wallsend based brothers Owen & Joe moody won two fights each to meet each other in the final of the primary boys u20kg event. Joe pipping his younger brother to take the Gold, with brother Owen the Silver. This was quickly followed by their sister Megan, who won the silver in the Primary girls o30kg category. Sean Young and Chloe Harris also from Wallsend both gave good performances to gain runner up awards in the primary u25 & u30 groups. Kieran tweedy from Seghill won two from three fights in the junior boys u40kg event, with some excellent Judo to gain the Silver. Tonicha Brown of Cramlington gave a solid performance against strong opposition in the junior girls o50kg category and also gained a silver award.
2nd October BJC North East Open
Six
junior members from BattleHill Judo Club, joined around 120 other judoka
at Westgate Centre for Sport, Newcastle upon Tyne, for the North East
Open Judo Championship.
Brothers Owen & Joe Moody were runners up in the
Primary Boys u24kg group, whilst their sister Megan gained the silver in
the Primary Girls u40kg category. Sean Young was runner up in the
Primary u30kg event, while Kieran Tweedy secured th bronze in the boys
u40kg. Tonicha Brown achieved the second silver of the day with a good
performance in the girls u50kg event.
23rd July IBF Scottish Judo Championship,Dumfries
Battle Hill Judo Club journeyed to the International Budo Federation International Judo
Championship in Dumfries, Scotland.
We had eight competitors
from Wallsend, Seghill & Cramlington in the event returning with seven
medals.
Ryan Smith took a bronze
medal in the Junior Boys u30kg event, and Megan Moody achieved a Silver
in the Junior Girls u40kg category. Megan's two brothers Joe & Owen
along with their team mate Callum McKenzie competed in the primary boys
under 20 kg pool, 6yr old Callum & 5yr old Owen returned with a Bronze
each, whilst 7yr old Joe gained the Gold medal. Tonicha Brown aged 13
had a good pool of green belts in the Junior Girls u48kg event and
gained a Silver medal. Kieran Tweedy aged 11 impressively won all three
of his contests by Ippon (maximum score) to secure the Gold medal in the
junior boys u40kg category. John Stone was competing with over 50
seniors at the event and was runner up in the Senior men's u90kg
category.
BattleHill Coach Award
Nineteen year old 1st Dan Black Belt Damien Anderson from Byker has achieved his club coaching award. Damien achieved a club coach award following a ten week training programme where he has covered all aspects of Judo tuition, learning the principles of both teaching and coaching. He learned how to demonstrate Ukemi, Ne-Waza and Tachi-Waza to Judo students, including the prearranged form of throwing (Nage-no-kata), defined by Judo’s originator Jigaro Kano.
3rd July, Bushido Grading, Wallsend
The Bushido Academy of Judo held a Judo Grading at Burnside Community
College, with students from Seghill Judo Club, Bushido Judo Kwai and Battlehill
Judo club in attendance. Students were required to demonstrate techniques suitable to their grade,
perform the Nage no Kata (forms of Throwing) and Kateme no kata (forms of
Grappling), as well as Shia (Judo contest).

Thomas Dugdale aged 15, whom has been learning Judo since the age of five was
awarded the highest grade achievable for his age and gained the coveted junior
black belt. In Thomas’s ten year Judo career he has competed successfully around
England and Scotland as well as receiving Judoka of the year awards.
Robert Stuart, also aged 15 became the second student of the day from Bushido
to reach the top grade for his age and achieve a junior black belt. Robert
started Judo on 15th April 2005 aged 9 at Gosforth High School, and moved with
the club to wallsend boys club. Examiners at this event were Chris Dawson 6th Dan and Bruce Carnaby 6th Dan
12th June, BJC Graded Tournament, Newcastle
BattleHill Judo club were in attendance at the British Judo Council’s graded
judo competition, held at Westgate Centre for Sport, Newcastle.
Megan Moody fought in the Primary Girls novice event and was defeated in the
final to return with a Silver medal. Ryan Smith also returned with a Silver
medal from the Junior Novice Boys category.
Megan’s Brother, Joe took first prize in the primary boys novice event,
convincingly winning three contests by Ippon (maximum score) to secure a well
earned Gold Medal.
10th April, Bushido Academy Open, Seghill
Both Battlehill Judo Club and Seghill Judo club competed in the Bushido Academy's annual closed Judo championship held at the Seghill Institute Battlehill Judo club had 9 entries, and returned with 9 trophies from the event
20th March, Bushido Academy Techniques Course, Wallsend
The Bushido Academy Judo techniques course attended by the three member clubs under the instruction of Chris Dawson 6th Dan.
