Battlehill Judo club recently had 12 students competing in the NE youth Open judo Competition held at The Parks in North Shields.
First up for the club was Charlie Hutton in the Primary Boys U25kg category who convincingly won all of his fights to secure Gold.
This was closely followed with the Primary Girls U32kg in which Kate Sturrock narrowly pipped team mate Shaylin Burns to Gold with Shaylin taking the Silver in a hard fought pool.
Next up were the junior’s starting with Jenni Francis in the Girls U30kg who lost only one contest to the eventual winner to take Silver.
Joseph Carroll and Owen Hardaker competed in the Boys U40kg category in which they both fought well but unfortunately neither progressed to the final.
This was followed by Ellie Hutton in the Girls U45kg. Ellie won all of her fights in convincing fashion to secure the Gold medal equalling her brother Charlie’s achievement earlier in the day.
Scott Anderson was up next in the boys U50kg, he was in a pool of much higher graded competitors and was narrowly beaten into 4th place.
The Boys U55kg category was a very large group in which team mates Josh Stoneman, Sean Young and Luke Anderson ended up competing against each other with Josh taking Gold, Sean taking Bronze and Luke taking a hard fought 4th place.
The final competitor of the day was Josh McKeown in the Boys U60kg who secured a well deserved Gold.
