Four students travelled to Nottingham to compete in the British Schools Qualification competition
Ellie Hutton representing St Thomas Moor RC Academy dominated with 2 wins with Ippon (maximum score) in the under 34kg to secure the Gold award.
Josh Stoneman fighting for Burnside Business and Enterprise College, Wallsend joined eight competitors in the under 55kg's category. He made it through the pool stage and was defeated in the semi finals to take 3rd place.
Josh McKeown, of Richard Coates C of E Middle School, Ponteland in the same under 55kg group also made it through the pool stage, won the semi final convincingly and was narrowly defeated on penalties in the final to gain the Silver medal.
Kieran Tweedy of Astley Community High School, Cramlington won all fights in the pool stages of the under 66kg's with some exceptional judo but was defeated in the semi finals to gain 3rd place.
Hutton & McKeown have secured guaranteed entries to represent their respective schools in the prestigious British Schools Judo competition to be held at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield in April of this year
